Sustainable fishing in the Gambia River

Main Article Content

Abstract

The aim is to develop a sustainable fishing project in the city of Bakau in The Gambia, a small West African country surrounded by Senegal and belonging to the Sahel (Arabic word meaning "edge or coast"), with a narrow coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. It is famous for its diverse ecosystems around the central Gambia River, which plays a central role as the backbone of life for the people along the river.
The main objective will be to enable the local fishermen to carry out their work and, in this way, to be able to make a living from their work, thus being self-sufficient and autonomous, both in the immediate present
and in the near future. In this way, this will be the legacy to their children so that the project will be sustainable and replicable in time and space.
