Abstract
Concern for the protection of the environment has, without a doubt, made a comeback on the institutional and political agenda during the last two years of the second decade of the 21st century. Counting on the essential participation of citizens, we must take advantage of this favourable global context and take a legal approach to promote academic studies and proposals for the implementation of legal and organisational instruments in order to continue making progress in such a crucial area.
In this study, the author reviews the global context of environmental protection as well as our own constitutional architecture in this area, and presents environmental protection as an essential element of the constitutional formula for the social and democratic rule of law. The aim of this work is to serve as an academic contribution to help raise the necessary awareness and involvement of citizens.
