Abstract

This editorial endeavours to set the basis for a conceptual clarification of the term globalisation; here we have a polysemical concept which needs to be made clear, and where it is essential to differentiate shades of meaning. A special section will be dedicated to the relationship between globalisation and freeing up markets on a world-wide scale. This will be followed by an ethical evaluation of this complex phenomenon and some proposals of means designed to try and ‘manage’ globalisation by way of introducing rational and egalitarian criteria into the process. The authors conclude by stating that it must be subjected to controls so that it leads, not to exclusion, but to integration: this implies the promotion of projects for global intervention that guarantee a preferential treatment for the ‘losers’ in globalisation.
