Abstract

This text opens up for debate the proposal for an intercultural integration model for immigrants in European countries, that should be so different from any cultural or political imperialism, that should only admit the assimilation of diversity in cultures, defended by Communitarian multiculturism. The article, after placing the migratory problem within the perspective of world order (1), tackles questions of displacement and belonging, and gives a few historical facts (2). The main part puts forward four models of integration for immigrants (3), then going on detail one of them in particular: cultural integration, stating five principles for public working space (4) and putting forward some of the more conflictive aspects of the model (5). The model for intercultural integration that is outlined is based on the merging of two principles: intercultural equality and cultural difference, whose formulation is based on Human Rights as contextualised universal principles that integrate difference.
