Abstract

In an edition such as this one, dedicated entirely to migration, cannot fail to include a reference to where the Editorial Board stands on this subject, although this was covered by an editorial article in 1996. In fact, we begin by summarising what was written then to go on to include the latest developments in migratory trends that can be seen today. On the other hand, the circumstances of immigration in our country cannot be analysed separately from the European Union. Within this framework we analyse the assumptions from which we should face up to the phenomenon itself: some of these are based on reasoning of necessity and opportunity, while others stem from a profound moral obligation. The article concludes by offering a number of suggestions for future advances.
