Structural adjustment policies: the Nicaragua Case
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper gives us a historical exposition of the emergence and evolution of Structural Adjustment Policies (SAPs). Those policies are promoted by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in developing countries as a common condition for financial help. Nowadays, they are associated to the Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs). The article also states how the SAPs have been implemented in Nicaragua since 1990 and how these policies have become a condition for the condonation of foreign debt in the Very Indebted Poor Countries Initiative.
