New Agriculture and multifunctionality: a challenge for agronomists

Abstract
The rural world has to face new challenges today. Going beyond a strictly productive vision, which ascribeb to this field the sole function of producing food, we are spreading into the discovery of new dimensions. The economic–productive dimension will always be essential, but today we are more conscious than ever of new dimensions in the rural enviroment: sociocultural, enviromental, ethical and political. This scope for multifunctions entails profound changes in the very conception of the trade of the agronomist. This article contributes to delving deeper precisely into this new way of conceiving the profesion.
