The water planet
Main Article Content
Abstract
The present article endeavours to give a general view of the importance of water in life, and the serious problems we might have to face in the near future if we do not become conscious that water, in spite of its apparent abundance on our planet, can very soon become a scarce commodity that has to be rationally managed and fairly distributed. The article first analyses water as a fountain of life, then water as a basis of civilisation, but also as a possible source of conflicts, and finally, the situation of water in the world today, suggesting possible lines of action, once it has been admitted that water is a fundamental right that is essential to ensure an adequate standard of living for every single person, and sustained development for humanity.
