Abstract

This article is the fruit of a study carried out by the Institute for Social Studies in Andalusia – Instituto de Estudios Sociales de Andalucía (IESA–CSIC), for the Andalusian Government’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery – Consejería de Agricultura y Pesca de la Junta de Andalucía. The object of this study was the reconstruction of a unique development experience in the rural zone of the Campo de Gibraltar province, carried out by the Federation of Women’s Associations, “Awakening” – Federación de Asociaciones de Mujeres “El Despertar”. The aim was to learn how this type of experience can contribute to social change in structures and relations between genders. By making use of several studies carried out earlier by this and other research centres, and through the application of techniques of a qualitative nature, information was obtained that led to learning how this process of change comes about, and what results can be gathered from the experience.
