Abstract

Considering Habermas in the socialist tradition, and after discussing how, on the other hand, from the liberal heritage, in the sense of classic political liberalism, it stands clearly and fully against neoliberalism, the content of this article penetrates the rethinking of socialism as «radicalisation of democracy» which we find in Habermasian thinking, and from this point describes their proposals that point towards a solidarity State, seen as a going to greater depths in the welfare State seeking political mediation for solidarity, that appears as a path to travel towards the urgent and necessary renovation of left–wing political opinion and practice. In times of globalisation such as we are living today, the prospect entailed in the new reasons for socialism that can be wielded has to be expressed in universal terms from transcultural political demands of ethics by consensus.
