Abstract

the last law on education has introduced a new curricular area called “Education for citizenship”; for the last few months the scope of this new subject has been under a difficult debate. Our editorial comment attempts to transcend that news in order to access the real implication of issues at stake, from the widest perspective of the necessary education for citizenship, considered from the ever unfinished process of foundation and construction of the political community. We understand that education for citizenship can be understood from Constitution and Human Rights as shared heritage, that allows the articulation of a common ethical grammar and that is the answer to a global, cosmopolitan and complex citizenship, which we would like it to stand for the European social model: this is the synthesis of the essential elements of integral and full of solidarity humanism, for whose construction the Christianity has a word to offer.
