Social Research on the Horizon of the Society of Jesus mission
Main Article Content
Abstract
This text was prepared for the annual meeting of the Grupo de Fomento Social where Jesuits along with lay people collaborate in Jesuit institutions where social problems hold a prominent position on the agenda. The author offers a reflection on how such research should be in accord with Jesuit tradition. That is why he begins with those Jesuit sources that motivate the intellectual apostolate, to later show how today’s Jesuit mission requires rigorous and sapient knowledge and familiarity with reality. This knowledge, which should be at the service of apostolic leadership, involves certain difficulties at present that must be analysed, as well as the areas that could be of particular interest today. The article concludes with the presentation of a model that summarises the most relevant intuitions offered in the text.
