El compromiso sociopolítico de las universidades jesuitas en Centroamérica

Abstract

This article analyzes comparatively the evolution of three Jesuit universities in Central America from the perspective of its socio political commitment and more specifically from the point of view of his work for social justice. The trajectory of these universities was largely asymmetrical and has always been conditioned by the historical conjuncture of each one of the countries,marked by civil wars, military dictatorships and, in addition in the case of Nicaragua,by revolutionary governments. Action for social justice from Jesuit universities faced them to the right wing governments; the most dramatic consequence of all this was the slaughter that took place at the Universidad Centro americana José Simeón Cañas in San Salvador, then under the leadership of an intellectual figure of the stature of Ignacio Ellacuría.
