How can we share the Christian experience with young people today?

Abstract

Continuing the two articles already published in this magazine, in issues 181 and 182, on the subject of communicating the faith to young people of our time, the author now proceeds to analyse the ways in which the experience of faith and its doctrinal content are transmitted, which require appropriate language, since in the Christian experience the personal act of faith and the vital acceptance of its content must be inextricably linked, with neither element able to dispense with the other. The acceptance of a doctrine must be based on the vital experience of faith, and all this within the frame of reference of the Church. We must overcome the divorce that can occur between the more or less explicit demands of young people on the Church and what the Church offers them. It seems that young people are looking for answers to their daily needs, while they perceive that the Church responds by imposing rules whose observance, in more than one case, does not fall within the realm of what is culturally plausible.
