Notes on the “theological theology” of X. Zubiri
Main Article Content
Abstract
With these pages, the author aims to open up reflection on a little-known facet of the philosopher and teacher of philosophers Xavier Zubiri (San Sebastián 1898-Madrid 1983): that of the theologian. It is not that this dimension of Zubiri is unknown, but rather that the recent publication of the work El problema teológico del hombre: Cristianismo (The Theological Problem of Man: Christianity) highlights some key points from which current theology may be motivated to rethink fundamental issues such as revelation, the mystery of the Trinity, grace as a divine gift, and Christology. This article is introductory in nature and begins by considering what theology in general meant to X. Zubiri and what he envisioned his theological thought to be. These pages propose a subsequent deepening that can take the form of an enriching dialogue, animated by other perspectives from the human sciences in which the figure of Zubiri has always been very significant.
