Judith, the prototype of womanhood

Abstract

The aim here is to gather the necessary data to offer a glimpse of Judith's personality, which is often overshadowed by the importance of her feat against Holofernes. But her very name, Judith, means “the Jewess,” and in fact she appears as a model of “the daughter of Israel” and as a symbol of the Jewish nation. Judith stands out in a world that men have made to suit themselves. The Book of Judith, says the author of the article, elevates the dignity of women to heights that even the most enthusiastic fighters for equal rights between the sexes have not yet reached.
