Euthanasia a debate between individual freedom and Christian solidarity
Main Article Content
Abstract
The concept that people tend to have of euthanasia depends on their view of life and death. The right to die with dignity is defended today as an extension of the right to a dignified and humane life. Euthanasia is at the center of wide-ranging debates at many different levels. The Christian view of death and the consequent ethical stance on euthanasia cannot be shared by non-believers. For this reason, in this article, the author reflects on the sense of solidarity and cosmic meaning that death can have, even for non-believers, based on the modern view of the world provided by quantum physics, molecular biology, and ecology itself. Reviewing the new holistic paradigm that is emerging in the field of science in recent years, the author goes back to Teilhard de Chardin's endearing cosmic vision.
