The revival of idolatry
Main Article Content
Abstract
Cult idolatry has disappeared from our immediate surroundings. But we must also recognize that idols and idolaters have changed their identity. Today, paradoxically in the context of our secular and technological society, something continues to be practiced that has much to do with the idolatry of societies of yesteryear. The author bases this diagnosis on liberation theology's reflection on sin. This theology has raised the issue of idolatry in recent years. The article only aims to provide a minimal systematic treatment of this reflection and an appropriation of what is at stake. The suspicion is that the idolatrous motive may continue to be theologically very profitable even for contexts other than Latin America. Profitable, above all, for reworking the discourse on sin, which has been reviled and stigmatized for several decades now.
