Communion and collegiality in the Church in an age of tensions and globalisation

Abstract

We find ourselves in a change of epoch. In this article, Professor Estrada tries to draw out the ecclesiological consequences of this transition to a new cultural paradigm. The author's thesis is that the mode of the Church in communion is the one that best fits the process of globalisation. The great challenge of this millennium will be to transform the Church in its institutions, organisations and structures, to adapt them to the model of ecclesiology of communion and to the demands of a globalised world. Such a model allows for a single, catholic, but differentiated Church, inculturated in different societies and cultures. Uniformity will leave the way open for communion with differences and for the development of different models of ministries, theology, canon law, etc.
