Christians in politics

Abstract

The participation of Christians in politics gives rise to reservations in some quarters. Naturally, no one can deny the right of any citizen to participate in political life, both in the broad sense of elections and in the more restricted sense of membership of political parties and associations. In a democratic and secular society, no citizen can be denied the freedoms and rights granted by the Constitution, including the right to full participation in political life regardless of religion or any other ideological factor. And yet it is undeniable that the issue of the participation of Christians in politics raises misgivings. Their qualification as Christians adds nuances to citizenship that generate mistrust, if not outright rejection. Juan A. Estrada examines the question in depth, from the perspective that faith is a fundamental source of inspiration and commitment in the world.
