The Ecclesial role of the laity Unresolved challenges

Main Article Content

Bárbara Andrade

Abstract

In this paper, Professor Andrade offers a reflection on the vicissitudes of the development of the ecclesiology of communion, sponsored by Vatican II, particularly as it affects the laity. The topic touches on one of the challenges still facing the contemporary Church and its resolution may well determine much of its own future historical journey. The article advances an agenda of related questions - encouraging the intra-ecclesial dynamics of communion, the reality of clericalisation, the differentiation of the identity of the laity and the priest, the delimitation of the mission of the laity, the ecclesial position of women - on which the author suggests avenues for examination.
