Abstract

Simone Weil is an example of a person concerned with the reality around her and with an incessant search throughout her life. This quest led her to formulate a thought that still has much to say to the world today. Who are the believers in history? is one of the questions Weil asked herself. Beyond the institutional limits of the Church, in every human being there is, in the depths of his being, an aspiration, even beyond the evil or suffering exercised or endured, towards the good; and every person carries with him a belief in himself, a hope which, as such, situates the subject as someone who is sustained by a hope and a horizon of the future. It is hope that allows the human being to transcend the concrete and limited today. Simone Weil defends, therefore, that the human being is a believer in his own structure, someone who needs to sustain himself by believing; and it is on the basis of this defence that the author continues to occupy an important place in current reflection.
