Church and dialogue: ecclesial identity according to Lumen Gentium 13-17
Main Article Content
Abstract
Paul VI's publication of the encyclical Ecclesiam Suam gave dialogue as a category an ecclesial content and was a certain sign of openness. In the context of the encyclical, ‘dialogue’ is to be understood as a ‘dialogue of salvation’ which is addressed to all human beings. Professor Mazzolini's article traces the gestation of the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gentium, to show how the presence of the Church in the midst of the world can only be correctly understood from the perspective of a non-exclusive relationality, respectful of diversity and gradualness which, despite having made its way during the time of reception of the Council, continues to be an unavoidable task today.
