Abstract

After half a century of existence, and calling on the quick changes in contemporary societies, a debate is on about the current importance of the Council. The author of the present article is convinced that , a profound reading of the council texts, manifests the great contemporary importance of the same. Vatican II assumes the fundamental challenge that acquires concreteness with the unfolding of modernity: to think reality as history. The Council recaptures the history proposing the eschatology as a defining form of the things Christian. Definitely, the current importance of the Council is rooted on having become an eloquent testimony of the irruption of God’s eternity into the history of menth.
