The Gift and gratuitousness in the social doctrine of the Church
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this paper, we try to show the narrow links connecting donation and happiness. Recession of behaviors inspired by gratuitousness are responsible for the fact that Spain is one of the countries which have lost more happiness in the world, according to the last issue of the World Happiness Report. This nexus of gratuitousness and happiness, firmly rooted in Christian tradition, is becoming confirmed by the most recent neuroscientific experiments. From this starting point, we summarize the reflection held in some of the main texts of Church’s social doctrine (especially ‘Caritas in veritate’, 2008), and conclude that these behaviors offer the best way to make human being’s integral development possible, and that responsibility to favour it depends on each of us.
