Abstract

The models of citizenship and society which have stemmed from the political framework of Modernity have tendered to invalidate religious and cultural traditions, considering them a reality exclusive of the private sphere. In this way, the Modern world would be different from the pre-modern world due to the constitution of a new “self”. Charles Taylor has been one of the authors that, without denying the positive aspects of the modern legacy, has vindicated the restoration, reparation and appraisal of those traditions in which “individuals” are socialized. In this article, I want to show his critique to the model of citizenship typical of modernity and his own proposal.
