Hatha yoga. From the origins to the present
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article provides with a wide range of terms related to the ancient discipline of yoga, which emerged in India and has been spread all over the world. It pays special attention to the modality of 'Hatha yoga' or yoga of the body, little known and fundamental for the practice of the other yoga types. The information given here is not just about yoga itself, but also about history, cosmology, divinities, and its reception and transformation in the current societies. It pretends to be a guide to those who want to deeply understand the philosophy of hinduism, its essence, and its materialization into prevailing yoga discipline. It might also help to understand the contemporary practice of ‘mindfulness’, among others, and to establish the base for future research on this topic.
