Christological concentration of the atonement in the New Testament
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this article the concept of “expiation” in the New Testament is addressed —primarily through the five texts in which the technical terminology of expiation is used (Rm 3,25; Heb 2,17; 9,5; 1Jn 2.2; 4,10)— to obtain the essential biblical data that would allow us in the future to make a theological reflection on the Christian concept of “expiation”. We conclude that, although the New Testament depends on the Old regarding the basic understanding of expiation, a Christological concentration of characteristics is found; features which, in the Old Testament’s conception, belong to different actors.
