Teaching Applied Ethics at the University? Some suggestions taken from experience
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article aims to gather the nearly 50 years of teaching experience in ethics, particularly applied ethics, in various settings. This experience first invites us to pay attention to students' expectations, as well as to uncover some of the biases or preconceptions they spontaneously hold. From there, it is advisable to have a sort of “hidden curriculum”: those concepts or principles that should be continuously reminded of when discussing different topics within any applied ethics field. These provide many opportunities to assimilate more fundamental concepts that could have been the subject of a general ethics course (which many students may not have taken).
