On Second Scholasticism, Modernity and the Society of Jesus A dialogue with Rafael Ramis Barceló
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article presents and evaluates the recently published book by Rafael Ramis, entitled La Segunda Escolástica. Una propuesta de síntesis histórica. In addition, the article ventures new hypotheses in dialogue with said book, referring specifically to what Second Scholasticism is, assuming that this second character is not only due to the simple fact of its historical posteriority; to the intrinsic modernity of this Scholasticism, given the Scotist and Ockhamist matrix from which it was born at the dawn of the 14th century; and to the relevant role that throughout the development of this Second Scholasticism was played by the authors of the Society of Jesus, a characteristically modern order, in a particularly intense way in the practical sciences (ethics, law, politics and economics).
