The Utopia of the Occult in the Mundus Subterraneus by Athanasius Kircher SJ

Abstract
Athanasius Kircher SJ has been linked to hermetic studies and egyptomania, but his book Mundus subterraneus describes a utopia as fantastic journey to a non-place, in this instance through the analysis of the interiorities of the globe. This utopia describes “the greatest of God's jobs” as an imaginary geocosm. We will analyze this utopia of the occult, what is not manifested in view of all, and how this idea remains linked to other books by the author.
