Abstract

This study is part of a historic and liturgical investigation about the troubled evolution which has been owned by the sacrament of Confirmation. At the origins, Confirmation was celebrated in several ways, depending on the rites in existence until the Roman Rite was imposed everywhere throughout the Western World. Moreover, at the beginning, the Confirmation was totally integrated with the Baptism, though it was coming to be gradually separated from it, and even it came to invert the order of the binomial Eucharist- Confirmation. The sacrament of Confirmation has suffered different mutations as far as the ritual gestures with which it has been administered, temporarily separated from baptism, or jointly with it.
